Well, it’s that time of year, folks! This year has been absolutely weird, busy, crazy, and beautiful. I’d love to hear in the comments what you’re grateful for.
Here’s my list:
1. Family – I am so grateful for all the pizza nights, evening talks, laughs, and travels! So thankful our family had a mini reunion in Cabo for my sister’s 40th. I realized how much I miss having my brother and sister-in-law nearby. Our family also expanded by one little cutie—I have a nephew now! My heart is full of joy.
My relationship with my parents is also stronger than it has ever been. Ultimately, they’re just people and I love hearing their takes on today’s society and my problems. Gosh, things were simpler back then.
2. Friends – Sometimes I feel as if I will burst from the amount of love and care that I carry for my dear gal pals. Many of them live in SoCal, but we don’t let distance get in the way of our sisterhood.
3. New Experiences – I’ve always been a pretty open person, but this year I’ve definitely dabbled in some uncharted territory. I casually dated a bit—turns out it’s not rocket science and it’s quite fun!
I also opened up myself to talking to strangers more. It’s fun chatting up a random grandma at the grocery store or a passerby. Saying “hello” and smiling at someone is nice. And what’s the worse that could happen?
4. Exercise – I am so grateful for hot yoga. I love my studio’s teachers, the community, and the way that I have grown to love and appreciate my body for what it can do. This year I also joined a local gym and going there after work has become one of the best things for my mental health. After a workout sesh, I show up as a better version of myself to my loved ones and those around me. I feel calmer, stronger, and more present.
5. My Job – I definitely had some growing pains this season. But I am so happy at my work and I love how creative I can be. It keeps me on my toes and I am excited to see what’s next.
6. Faith – I’m still on the lookout for a church that fits my vibe. In the meantime, I’m happy I can embark on spiritual journeys solo, or with my family/friends. Faith keeps me going during these crazy global times.
7. Russian Literature/Music – One of my biggest fears is that one day I’ll forget Russian. I’ve been reading Anna Karenina and listening to post-punk Sovietwave music (not at the same time) and it’s been so fun to tap into my roots. Part of me wishes I was born in Russia, so I could relate to my family more. But hey! Luckily, it’s not too late to explore my culture.
