Friendsgiving Fashion: 5 Looks with Recipe Ideas

It’s that time of year—Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving celebrations are upon us. The pressure is on…. The calendar is getting penciled in with parties and people are signing up to bring their favorite dishes (I’m making Alison Roman’s spicy green beans).

This year I thought I’d do something different: I’m picking outfits and pairing each outfit with a dish one could bring to a party. I hope this gives you some inspiration! I definitely had fun cooking up these fits (bad pun, I know…. I had to!).

  1. Granola Girl Who Loves to Bake

I saw this photo of Elizabeth Olsen circulating and immediately saved it to my Pinterest fashion board. I love the layers and chocolate brown colors that she has going on! Chef’s kiss!

I’m an occasional granola girl, but if I was cosplaying as a gal who’d rather spend every weekend hitting the slopes or hiking the hills, I’d definitely rock this for a Thanksgiving party. Yes, it’s casual, but it’s perfect for a Friendsgiving at your bestie’s place who would never give you a hard time for not showing up bedazzled. In fact, your bestie would be very grateful and relieved you didn’t come with your trusty (and muddy) Keen hiking boots. If I were to wear this to my bestie’s party, I would bring this rich and moist Bacardi rum cake. My sisters have made this cake multiple times and it never fails to disappoint!

This look is also quite easy to recreate: throw on your favorite denim jeans, heavyweight winter boots, and lastly, a textured jacket or hefty button-down.

2. Chic Aunt Who is the CEO of a Beauty Company

Saoirse Ronan is having her fashion moment and I am here for it. This look features royal blue on royal blue—I can’t get it out of my head.

Now, if I was a chic aunt, I’d wear this. Luckily, I am an aunt, but quite far from being chic. I don’t have a closet full of ironed clothes and I most definitely don’t have a pantry full of organic snacks. In my head, that’s the pinnacle of chic: you have wrinkle-free clothing and you are always ready to feed people with healthy goodness. I just know this chic aunt would show up to a festive outing with a warm plum galette.

3. Gal Who Tells Her Friends She’s Dressed Casually, But is Actually Ready for the Runway

The tartan skirt trend is back and I’m so happy because it’s the perfect winter staple. It can be dressed up or down. Sure, plaid may seem casual, but if you decide to wear a tartan high-waisted skirt, you can elevate the look with some layers and your favorite trousers as the base. And don’t forget a chunky knit over a crisp white button-down!

If I were to wear this to a Thanksgiving party, I’d bring a caramelized maple tart. This tart’s pretty amber color reminds me of the most perfect autumnal outfit.

4. Cozy, Yet Classy

Chocolate brown is this year’s color! In the photo above, Jennifer Lawrence is wearing a chic pairing: a silk skirt with a long sweater that’s perfect for those brisk fall evenings. Don’t forget your tan peacoat! I’d pair this outfit with a caramelized apple pie—this one is sure to impress your guests.

5. From Brat Summer to Wholesome Fall

I saw this and immediately thought, yep, a Charli XCX fan would love this as a transitional fit for fall. The semi-sheer lace white top is the perfect base for this look. Plus, the outfit is paired with chunky boots, which is so Julia.

I can see myself bringing these s’mores brownies to make everyone feel like they’re tucked away in a woodsy cute cabin (recovering from Brat summer, of course).
