Running Gear Essentials

I started training for the Bay Bridge half marathon. I was supposed to complete it in 2020, but it got postponed because of the pandemic. It’s finally happening on May 1st and I am excited and nervous! I thought it’d be fun to share my running gear essentials, since I have some favorites that make training easier.

Do you like to run? If yes, share your running essentials in the comments below. And if you don’t like running, let me know what your favorite forms of movement are! I’d love to hear about them.

1. Running Shoes

I recommend going to a running store to choose proper running shoes. I went to Fleet Feet and after testing out Brooks shoes, I settled on the Hoka Clifton 8 shoes. They have an ultralight midsole foam that makes it easier to land on my feet, which puts less pressure on my knees that tend to ache after a long run.

2. Socks

Running socks are a must because they give you extra cushioning. These Bombas socks are made with merino wool that’s breathable and quick-drying, making them perfect for those high intensity training days.

3. Foam Roller

Foam roller exercises are the best thing to do after running. This Gaiam Restore Deep Tissue foam roller has grooves that relieve deep layers of tense tissue. I like following this video when foam rolling to help my runner’s knee.

4. Leggings

Out of the leggings I’ve tried, Lululemon’s leggings never fail me. They never slip when I run! Plus, they don’t pill.

5. Running Shorts

These Nike running shorts come in vibrant colors that will keep you motivated to hit the trails. They provide great coverage, while keeping you cool and comfortable.

6. Sports Bra

I love this stylish Outdoor Voices crop top that works as a sports bra. Professionals recommend to get personally fitted for a proper sports bra, but I’ve been getting by without one!

7. Tops

This Under Armour top comes in various cool colors. On colder days, I’d rock this top that easily traps air, helping you stay warm.

8. Hand-held Water Bottle

This water bottle fits in the palm in your hand, plus it has an extra pocket for your essentials, like these energy-boosting gummies.

Happy running!
